Turmeric seems to be getting a lot of press about the benefits in humans. Dogs could also see benefit from turmeric. Turmeric is a natural root and curcumin is the principal, most potent compound naturally produced by the turmeric root. Turmeric is in the ginger family and the powder is frequently used in curries for its earthy flavor.
According to an article from Purina, turmeric is safe for dogs in small quantities. Turmeric in pets hasn’t been as extensively studied as it has in humans. However, a 2016 study from Southern Illinois University found that dogs with joint discomfort who took a turmeric supplement experienced reduced levels of overall discomfort after jogging. People are hopeful for potential other advantages of turmeric in the future which could include benefiting animals with cancer although there simply isn’t enough research out yet.
There are several PetHonesty products that contain turmeric such as the Turmeric Joint Health chews, Hemp Mobility, Advanced Hip and Joint, PureMobility, and even the Allergy Support chews. The turmeric in these chews is used to help support a normal inflammatory response. Ask your veterinarian if PetHonesty supplements are right for your pet.
